A collection of Eastern art of I.J. Paderewski (a selection from the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw)

In July this year, in the Museum of Interiors in Otwock Wielki, a new permanent exposition entitled A collection of Eastern art of I.J. Paderewski (a selection from the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw) was opened.

The collection of Eastern (mostly Chinese) art, having more than 300 items from 17th-19th century, was initially located in the Swiss villa of Paderewski – Riond-Bosson. In 1951 the collection was handed over to the National Museum in Warsaw, in accordance with the composer's wish expressed in his Last Will and Testament made in 1930. Now, a big part of the collection of Chinese art, as well as individual examples of Japanese manufacture in Paderewski's collection, are presented in the Museum of Interiors in Otwock Wielki (open from May to October).

The exposition, located in two halls on the ground floor of a Baroque palace, once a seed of the Bieliński family, includes items made of bronze (censers, ritual tools, big vases, bells, figures of religious significance), ceramic (mono-chromatic, blue-white and colourful china), enamel, lakes (cases, teacups, trays decorated with floral ornaments, landscapes and Chinese symbols), glass (teacups, vases and bowls); as well as ivory and stone sculpture and reliefs with landscapes, flowers and animals.
